Mold & Mildew
Composite decking is basically a mixture of plastic, glue, and wood fibers. Those wood fibers act like a sponge, absorbing and trapping moisture, which then leads to—you guessed it—mold. This can happen within just a couple months of installing, and the manufacturing companies have a less-than-stellar track record when it comes to helping their customers. Regular cleaning can sometimes remove the problem, but more often than not the mold and mildew spots will return after a few days.
